Manfred Mark studied physics in Innsbruck, working with tunable quantum gases of cesium in optical lattices, realizing strongly correlated quantum systems. Here he was involved in the creation of groundstate molecules via STIRAP, the effect of interactions on the Bose-Hubbard model and strongly-interacting one-dimensional systems. After his PhD in 2012 and some time as PostDoc, he joined the group of Prof. Ferlaino as Senior Scientist to work on dipolar systems. Since then, the group realized and observed many new phenomena driven by dipolar interactions, like extended Bose- and Fermi-Hubbard models in lattice systems, and the rotonized excitation spectrum of a bulk dipolar quantum gas, leading to the recently discovered supersolid phase of matter. Recently he started to work on the topic of Rydberg atoms in tweezer arrays realized with lanthanide atoms.
