Mikhail Baranov obtained his M.S. (1984) and Ph.D. (1987) in Moscow Institute of Engineering and Physics with topics in high energy physics. After finishing PhD he changed the field of research to superfluidity and superconductivity in condensed matter systems, and then to the quantum Hall Effect, both integral and fractional. Since 1998 he is working in the field of ultra-cold atomic and molecular gases. M. Baranov is a senior scientist in the group of Prof. Dr. P. Zoller at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information in Innsbruck and at the Institute for Theoretical Physics University of Innsbruck. His present research interests are related to many-body quantum phenomena in atomic and molecular gases.
